Therapy can provide a nonjudgmental, confidential setting where you can gain clarity on what is important to you in living a life that feels meaningful and identifying some of the barriers that may get in your way including unhelpful mindsets, unworkable patterns of behavior, and reacting out of emotions or efforts to avoid emotions.
In therapy you can identify and try out new ways of responding that feel more aligned with who and how you would like to be in your life now.
You can also identify and process past pain that might be keeping you stuck, with a goal to move through it so you can move forward.

Every individual is different so it would be important to meet initially to get a better understanding of what happened and how you have coped as well as what your goals are and what is most important to you.
Having said that, there is research that suggests that there is a natural recovery process after trauma, but if symptoms have not subsided after the first year, it is not likely that they will subside later without some specific trauma work. Trauma work typically involves creating space in some form to process what happened to you.
There are many factors that are relevant for when and how you approach trauma work and it is important that you know what your options are and feel free to make the choices that work best for you currently based on what is important to you.
